Maciej Karbowski I've listened to Jef Maarawi's concert here in Poland (Mikołów) just a week ago, and what I truly admired in his performance was Jef's warmth and authenticity. It was Magical ;) Favorite track: Oh My God, Omayra!.

Corcovado 03:43
Come back time And then time will politely decline There is strain in my heart When you don't want it When I'm the thing you truly despise Could you please find at least Find Someone, or two, or more of your kind Someone, who cannot tell when I'm lying Down my spine There are walls and there's fear in my mind There are dreams Which I don't really wanna care for There's disaster and it comes in all kinds Could you please take a picture Of me with this huge statue of Christ Will you bleed on my belly tonight I know sometimes I act a little crazy So many things for you to call me maybe So many things that you don't wanna understand In my prime I watch everything politely decline I'm afraid to be stabbed by somebody And bleed inside of black and white tiles Could you please protect me From the things that I try so hard to hide Will you feel, feel the pain deep inside Come back time And then time will politely fly by Lick the foam from my lips in Ipanema And sleep while having white bread and wine Could you please forget me Just this once so I can have a good time While someone dowsed in gas starts a fire

Forest 03:02
He lies in a forest For God knows how long A variable of some Anterior song He needs to be certain A part of it all At liberty to fuck up At liberty to fall There's a slight indentation On the back of his head He touches it and sees His fingers painted red There's something in the morrow Something hard to take At liberty to fuck up At liberty to fake Once, maybe twice In his whole life He shares something with strangers Something out of his waters In love and fear combined

Jesus Christ Your demise I'll be honest with you Came as a big surprise Always so indifferent Always looking left and right While I try to realize Between your inner thighs Reverend Jones Sitting all alone Packing a big shotgun To protect him from the world Always felt so lonely Trying to save his soul Trying to realize Between these pretty eyes He's not All the lies Of your earthly paradise As soothing as they might be They fill my heart with fright I'll try to save myself I'll try to put up a fight I'll Try to realize Between your inner thighs Reverend Jones Sitting all alone Looking at the floorboards Wearing dark brown pantyhoses Trying to kill the cockroach Trying sniff up all the roses Trying to realize Between these pretty eyes He's not Reverend Jones Reverend Jones Armed with the faith of hundreds Just not to feel alone Reverend Jones Reverend Jones Reverend Jones Love you so

LA 03:47
I know that I won't die in this town Sitting in a bathroom stall But I'm Floating through lalaland Of potential fulfilled Trying to sleep far from your arms But I Never went really far With our screams in your car Unafraid of the stars But still counting Walking behind as you run while on time And your dress reveals you to me But I Know how much this acting thing Means the whole world to you And the ends of what we'd become But I Never went really far Cause we're worlds apart Unafraid of the stars But still sleeping I've never been to LA But I Never went really far Cause we're worlds apart And the talks with our friends That still save me I've never been to LA In figures of speech between crowds In washing machines and in neighbouring moans In hikes filled with dread for it all In your back that thankfully rushes ahead I've never been to LA
5.
Eggshell 02:14
Nothing's gonna happen to you my friend I can reassure you You'll die a boring death There'll be no one to ask you what's consuming you There'll be no pair of eyes for you to hold on to There'll only be the cheer to tear yourself apart No painful goodbyes, no smell on the sheets I will not imagine the impact of your hips I don't need no thought of consequence right now I just need a void for me to settle down I just need some space far from all the beasts
6.
Comfort Food 03:51
I'm in this town Could you please not forget me This time around There are things that I do understand Would you please not select me Thoughts of your stead Lost in tracks that you've drawn in your head There places where we're not dead There are backthoughts soaked in your bed I won't bow To my dreams The unborn mortcian's money I'll take a walk by the sea While I make it you make it I make it I won't go I'm not allowed We're closer tonight And you know how it goes We walk with the fire I won't bow To my dreams The unborn mortcian's money I'll take a walk by the sea While you make it I make it they make it And I won't drown I'll never be All the things That I wanted And yet somehow I can see I'm laughing Oh fuck, I'm still laughing I won't go I'm not allowed We're closer tonight And you know how it goes We walk with the fire

Coming Going 03:07
If I was younger A fraction younger There are many things that I would change for thee And as we fly above the sea I fear for things I can't control And alternate between your legs And someplace very dark and cold Oh Paranoia Sweet Paranoia With dads that hold their tasers close to roaming vets What with the screaming in their heads Their angry sonic silhouettes While we would fuck in stranger's beds And then try to sleep and forget We're coming and going All over and over and over and over A smile and a nod and a tap on the shoulder Try and then fail and then try and then fail again Oh this hangover This sweet hangover I don't recall the reasons why you really fled Maybe it was my innate dread My tendency to sleep and moan Comfort myself with eating you The way I'd myself at home If I was stronger Just a fraction stronger There are many things that I would like to do for thee While struggling very hard to breathe I try my best to be discreet And sit in place while you would scream On famous sidewalks and palm trees We're coming and going All over and over and over and over A smile and a nod and a tap on the shoulder Try and then fail and then try and then fail again
8.
A little boy runs in circles in A broken haven His nose is running hot with blood And his palms are aching And on the carpet under which He hides his semen He feels the shape of a small hole With his toes He feels afraid for now he knows That he won't stop thinking He'll quench himself in chlorine juice For his fifteenth birthday A screaming in the sky Here am I sitting in my kitchen All afraid and I don't know why He'll place himself somewhere in space Right were nothing hurts more He'll run away from the police Somewhere in Damascus He'll punch the teeth off of a kid Underneath an oak tree He won't try hard to come back home Once he's gone A screaming in the sky Here am I sitting in my kitchen All afraid and I don't know why
9.
Someone jumps in front of a train Messing up the daily commute And in the train we all go insane We'll have to walk four blocks to go back home to The fearful in the mezzanine Daily dosage of adrenaline Metal rails look like fear within Sprayed with blood Bodies in between What if somehow death was to be seen By fretful version of both you and me Frustration sets accordingly Frowned upon yet really free Another day Where I'm not Elsinore's son Another day Where I just wanna have fun Someone jumps in front of a train And he's messing up the daily commute And in the train we all go insane For all the walking back home that will ensue Another day Where I'm not Elsinore's son
10.
We failed again To cut your legs And as you sink Up to your waist You pull a smile And look away A little shy A little grey So beautiful so unafraid A shame you have to die this way Another day Another treat Some candy bars For our defeat Your house is gone Your aunt is dead Her arms are wrapped Around your legs The prison that you call your bones At least she wouldn't let them go Singing alone and away from boiling water A beacon of hope and a blow to the bereaved Unknown to all of us who would use you as a daughter Where your body would grow to engulf all the debris Where Omayra still burns Where Omayra still burns And now you stand Firm in between The ones that left And the ones that will Your soggy hand You blackened eyes A picture worthy Of your demise Your mom says that she lost her clothes Your brother only lost a toe Singing alone and away from boiling water A beacon of hope and a blow to the bereaved Unknown to all of us who would use you as a daughter Where your body would grow to engulf all the debris Where Omayra still burns Where Omayra still burns

about

Almost four years have passed since the debut Egg Hell album, "Once Part Of A Whole Ship". Jef Maarawi returns, with his first solo work, "Comfort Food".

The music of "Comfort Food" sounds like coming out effortlessly, with laid back melodies and very few outbursts. Luscious guitars, subtle orchestrations, good chemistry between Jef Maarawi and King Elephant in production.

However, the disarming sincerity of Jef’s lyrics touches the common human weaknesses so deeply, that sometimes it hurts. And while the Black Dog wounds have been masterfully concealed with humor and cynicism, through the analgesic pop of "Comfort Food" the artist’s personal pain meets the listener who survives with the help of material or spiritual addictions, hidden behind the convenience of his own comfort foods. Somehow, Jef Maarawi's dark forest entwines more or less known stories, such as that of young Omayra Sánchez, that of the Jonestown massacre, or that of a stranger who jumps on the train tracks.

And as the stories end along with the vinyl grooves of this album, the smiling, generous heart defeats the body which is always ready to succumb and "Comfort Food" resembles a farewell letter, one step before the change.

Out on vinyl (+cd version) and digital album via Inner Ear.
